Homework Overload
I have never been a big fan of having homework. All it ever caused was stress and less sleep on my part. I do not really see the point of assigning homework to students almost everyday. You go to school for six hours and do work and learn things; why must they give us more work for when we are not in school? Even if it was just assigned once or twice a week that would be fine. Everyday that I have homework I spend at least an hour and a half on it. Like I said, six hours in school is enough work, why take two more hours out of the day to do more work? There has not been a weekend yet this school year where I have not had homework. It is usually writing assignments or projects that I have to do over my two DAYS OFF. I do not see the point in giving homework over the weekend if they are the students' days off. I can bet that if any student in the world is asked if they enjoy doing homework they will automatically respond with a no! It is guaranteed that if there was not a bunch of homework that kids would certainly complain less about school. I have definitely noticed that there has been an increase in the amount of homework given out. It seems like as I have gotten older, they have supplied us kids with more and more work. I do not know if it is because SAT scores have been low or the amount of kids graduating is down, but homework is out of hand. Rarely do I find myself learning from the homework that I complete. It always seems like my homework is a look-in-the-book-and-find-the-answers type of assignment. I never thought that I could learn something new if I am on my own reading the work. I need someone there to teach me what is going on and what to do to learn something new. It almost seems like homework is assigned so that we will not forget what we learned that day. I have always saw myself as someone who manages their time well and does the work at a good pace so that I am not stuck stressing out on the night before something is due. But I often find myself doing a big portion of a project on the day before the project or paper is due. It is not a good habit to procrastinate any big project, yet a lot of high school students find themselves doing that exact thing. Students have never been in favor of homework. I find myself hating homework every time I realize I forgot to do some at my house. I could see in the future that schools will do away with homework and make school longer. Although homework does have its benefits, that is why I do not think it will really ever be eliminated. It has become too much of a necessity for a school. Oh yeah, this blog was homework over the weekend. I enjoy them though.
